Most fundamentally, I am a spirit soul whose constitutional position is to serve Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. I joined the Hare Krishna Movement in NYC in 1978. In 1979 I was formally initiated into the practice of bhakti-yoga by Satsvarupa dasa Goswami and received the name, Krsna-nama dasa. The word "dasa" or "dasi" after a devotee's name indicates an awareness that he or she is a servant of the Lord, Sri Krishna (also spelled Krsna). "Bhakti-yoga" is the linking of the living entity to the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna by means of devotional service. I've served Krishna in a variety of capacities: as fundraiser for the NY and Philadelphia temples, as gurukula classroom teacher at the Gita Nagari Farm, and as pujari at the Baltimore temple. Currently I live at the Hare Krishna Farm in Alachua, Florida where I head the editorial and Links departments of Krishna.com. | |

Above are the deities of Sri-Sri Gaura-Nitai. (I served such deities when I lived in Baltimore.) In the late 15th Century, Krishna appeared in West Bengal as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu--also called GAURA. Nityananda Prabhu, or NITAI, was one of His principal associates. As Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Krishna founded the Hare Krishna Movement and promoted the chanting of the holy names: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare; Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare.
